MORE MILK
Cows facing north, on an average give more milk than cows facing in any other direction.
PONNANGANNI FOR GOOD MEDICINAL MILK
Ponnanganni can be grown in large areas and fed for getting better quality and medicinal milk.
Mullu keerai can also be given for the same purpose.
CALCIUM FOR MILKING COWS
Put 2 kg. Lime in a tank full of water. Leave some hours. Add the clear water (500 ml.) to the drinking water per day.
POST DELIVERY
Skinned Aloe Vera gel and Mehandi should be ground. Sprinkle Turmeric powder. Add Lemon juice. Grind together. Apply on tits to avoid diseases there after delivery.
CATTLE CARE
Lemon rind can be dried, powdered and given to the cattle.
For cows, Gingilly seed cake, cotton seeds, Bran, Broken rice and salt should be added daily to the diet.
Sesbania grandiflora leaves should be given daily once to prevent extreme body heat and to expel intestinal worms. Their hooves should be cleaned very well with salt water once a week.
Fumigate the cattle shed with Benzoin smoke daily.
The cows should be tied in such a way that they face either North or South.
Castor oil should be applied to their horns once a week. Apply once a week, 4 –5 drops of Gingilly oil into the ears and nose and 3 – 4 drops of Castor oil in the eyes.
Once a month, Sesamum seeds, Pulses, Cotton seeds, Ash gourds and Rice gruel may be added to the diet. Once a week, gruel with Palm jaggary may be given. During winter, their feed should include more Straw and oil cake. During Spring, Bran, Broken Rice and Gruel made of Cereals should be added to the diet.
SHEDS
Cattle sheds should be constructed east-west to get more light.
SWOLLEN ABDOMEN
Grind the roots of Sankhu Pushpam (Tamil) (Clitoria Ternatea. L.) and apply on the abdomen. But the leaves have toxins which can be removed by soaking them in Vinegar for 48 hours which should be changed 3 times.
For abdominal pain of horses, Iluppai (Tamil) (Mahua) leaves can be given to eat. Mix Turmeric powder in a glass of warm water and make them drink.
