Natural Remedies for Memory Problems


Woodapple (Belada Hannu in Kannada) and Sundekai resemble the human head.  So they strengthen the brain.


A Walnut looks like a little brain,  left and right hemispheres, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.


Mix and grind equal quantities of Sesame seeds and Garlic.  Swallow 1 spoon of this daily on empty stomach and drink a cup of water immediately.  Repeat for a month or two.  It increases the Oxygen supply to the brain.


  • Take equal quantities of Ajwain, Calamus, Turmeric, Induppu (a kind of salt), Jyeshtamad, Cummin, Hippili and Dry and Ginger.  Powder. Take a teaspoon of this powder with a ladle of Cow Ghee in the mornings daily.
  • Soak some Tulsi leaves in water for a few hours.  Drinking this water strengthens the brain.
  • Cook Sundekai (Tamil) and eat.
  • Take the pulp of Bel fruit.
  • Mix Garike Hullu (Arugam Pul in Tamil) juice with cow milk and drink on empty stomach for three days.
  • Tender Mangoes are rich n Vit. C.  when they are in season, one should eat a Mango a day.  This will improve blood circulation, cure nervous weakness and anaemia.  It can also improve memory.
  • A sweet can be prepared with Ash Pumpkin, sugar candy, ghee and honey and can be taken as a dose of a teaspoon per day.
  • Dates can be eaten daily.
  • Dry the flower buds of Pomegranate and powder them.  Roll into small pills and take a pill thrice a day.
  • Take 35g rams of Garike hullu (Kannada); clean it well; grind into a smooth paste.  Add equal quantity of pure butter.  Take twice a day for 20 to 40 days.  It makes the body strong, increases memory power and adds luster to the face.
  • Roast Alasande kalu and powder.  Take a handful and eat.
  • Dry the ripe fruits of Banyan and powder.  Take 12 g. with milk daily.
  • Shade dry the tender, red Banyan leaves and powder.  Boil 5 to 6 g. of it in half a litre of water.  Reduce to half the quantity.  Filter and add butter.  Drink it hot.
  • Boil tender leaves of Peepul in milk.  Filter and drink to strengthen the brain.
  • Mix a cup of Mango pulp with a cup of milk.  Add honey and take once a day for 48 days.  It improves memory, audition and vision.
  • Peel a ripe Pineapple.  Remove the peels and seeds.  Cut into small pieces.  Mash with
  • your hands.  Filter with a sieve.  Measure this juice and add equal quantity of sugar.  Add a little water to stir everything.  Boil it.  When it becomes thick like honey, add ¼ part of honey and mix well.  Cool and store.  Take 3 tablespoon of this concentrate  in a glass and add water.  Drink this after breakfast.  Repeat for 40 days.
  • Take Brahmi leaves weekly once.
  • Take the leaves of Solanum Trilobatum Linn, roast in ghee, grind with Tamarind, Chillies and Salt.  Eat daily with rice.
  • Eat Beladahannu (Woodapple) daily in season.
  • Boil Lotus flower in water and drink twice a day.
  • Ghee helps to enhance intelligence, understanding, memory and Ojas.
  • Soak some Tulsi leaves in a glass of water at night.  In the morning, drink this after filtering.
  • Brahmi – 25 g.; Shanka Pushpi – 15 g.; Harda – 10 g. Mix everything and take 1 tsp. once a day.
  • Use Lady’s finger or “Okra” in plenty in your diet.  Overcooking decreases its medicinal value.
  • Soak 2 Figs and 10 dry Grapes in milk and boil.  Take in the mornings daily.  It strengthens the brain.
  • Take honey daily.  It improves memory tremendously.
  • A combination of rice and curd is supposed to enhance memory power, especially curd made from cow’s milk is considered highly valuable for the proper functioning of the brain cells.  Rice rich in Glutamic acid is the best form of Carbohydrate to help the working of the brain.
  • Kannappar book reference:  Dry Brahmi leaves and take 16 parts.  Take Baje 1 part.  Powder together.  Take this (5 Rice grain weight) with honey in the morning and with cow milk in the evening daily.  Continue for 50 days.  People who have nervous weakness due to excessive mental and physical work, people who are forgetful, etc. will benefit from this treatment.
  • Increasing Hemoglobin is a must for these patients.  Take black dried raisins. Soak in half a cup of water overnight.  Eat them the next morning.
