RIPENING OF FRUITS NATURALLY
Only ripe and matured fruits should be plucked. There will be a dent near ripened fruits. Only they should be plucked. They will ripen the very next day.
When mangoes are plucked, they should be plucked with their 10 cm stem to avoid the milk. Keep all the mangoes in a place. Leave just a centimeter of stem and cut the remaining. Spread an old newspaper on floor. Keep them upside down with their stems on floor. All the milk will ooze out. Wash well with water. spread in a row. After the water dries, cover them with a gunny bag. They will ripen in a day or two. They can be rolled separately in papers and sent for sales.
Spread old straw on floor. Spread mangoes over this. Cover again with straw. The heat from the straw ripens them in a day or two.
Spread mangoes in a dark room. Close the doors and windows. Burn Lemon grass. The smoke ripens the mangoes. But this method will not allow them to retain their natural colour.
If the mangoes are spread in a dark place where sun light does not enter, the heat of the room increases and this enables them to ripen.
Neem leaves and Aavaram leaves (Tamil) can be used to ripen.
