Problems of Cattle
FOOD FOR COWS
If the milking cows are regularly fed with the leaves of Azima tetracantha, the milk extracted and all the bi-products like ghee, butter, etc will be more nourishing and tastier. If taken without adding water, it cannot be digested. So thick it is.
DEAD CALF
Dissolve equal quantities of asafoetida and Indhuppu (Tamil – A type of salt) in warm water and feed it. The dead calf will fall out.
MASTITIS
The following may be applied externally:
Cow’s butter; Gingilly oil and Turmeric powder mixture; Castor oil; A paste of 5 gms. each of Basella rubra leaves (Basali in Tamil; potaki in Sanskrit) and Hibiscus rosa sinensis flowers ground with cow’s butter.
WORMS IN INTESTINES
They become lean. Take 6 Lemons, Tamarind about 50 g. and Castor leaves a handful and grind everything together. Give this to the cattle. In a few days, the worms will be expelled and they become fat.
TO INFLUENCE COWS IN MATING WHEN NOT INTERESTED
Take salt and Pei Miratti leaves both a handful. Take a piece of Virali Manjal (Tamil for Turmeric) and mix. Feed the cow once a day for three days. They get interested.
WHEN UDDER IS FULL BUT NOT MILKING
Mix a little Butter with warm water. Mix a handful of Castor leaves. Keep for an hour. Apply this on the udder.
INCREASE OF MILK
Give 50g.of Shatavari powder twice daily to cows and buffaloes to increase the quantity of milk.
Fennel (Fenniculum vulgre) increases milk production for both humans and animals.
