In the construction of Akshardham, 6000 tones of stones are used to make the temple with 108 feet in height, 240 feet in length and 131 feet in width. At the Akshardham temple, the main highlights of the temple consist of the 7 feet long idol of Lord Swaminarayan, the chief deity.
The major matchless feature is that in the constructions of Akshardham, a single inch of steel is not used and built by only rock according to Vastu Shastra. This memorial has become a vast attractive place for tourist and pilgrimage in India throughout the last decade. It has a rambling (covering) 23 acre area and is well-defined out in pink sandstone.
The statue of Lord Swaminarayan in a sitting posture has been made with 1.2 ton gold plate and placed in the inner sanctum (holy place). The other idol statue of Swami Gunatitanand is on his right side and Swami Gopalanand on his left side is present.

It was constructed under the guidance of current spiritual leader, Pramukh Swami Maharaj who also happens to be the guiding light of Swaminarayan Sanstha, BAPS.
