National Anthem of India

National Anthem of India The song Jana-gana-mana, composed originally in Bengali by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the Indian national anthem on January 24, 1950..

A formal rendition of the national anthem takes fifty-two seconds. A shortened version consisting of the first and last lines (and taking about 20 seconds to play) is also staged occasionally.

The composition consisting of the words and music of the first stanza of the late poet Rabindra Nath Tagore's song known as "Jana Gana Mana" is the National Anthem of India. It reads as follows:

Jana-gana-mana-adhinayaka, jaya he
Tava shubha name jage,
Tava shubha asisa mage,
Gahe tava jaya gatha,
Jana-gana-mangala-dayaka jaya he
Jaya he, jaya he, jaya he,
Jaya jaya jaya, jaya he!

It was first sung on 27 December 1911 at the Calcutta Session of the Indian National Congress.
